History is a very powerful thing because of the fact that it contributes to the outcome of both the present and the future. Over the years, the various periods in time greatly influenced many of our aspects of living such as art, cuisine, and dressing and to say the least our styles of furniture. And for better or worse, it is yet to be seen.
So it happens that as your family heritage you vintage bedroom pieces that have been in storage for God knows how long and have lost some of their luster. Truth is you also do not want to part with them. So what can you do? The answer is to find ways to restore them to glory and carry on that family tradition of passing them on. How, you ask.
You can take them to someone who specializes in restoring such authentic items. Though be advised to be on the lookout for con artists. We do not want one losing money and priceless furniture to such.
Do it yourself project
If you are good with your hands, then it might be about time to give the family heirlooms your own TLC. This should only apply if the restoration work is minimal and only needs a couple of things from the hardware store. For example a nail here and there or a good polish of finish
You might be surprised to find that there are businesses out there that deal in vintage furniture too. Look around and find pieces of the same era of production that would make a good fit with your own collection.
If restoration is not wholly possible, then those pieces that are partially lost can be redesigned say into a lampshade or a decorative piece to still keep the family heirlooms intact though new.
Last but not least, if you are not attached to that history much (no judgment) or had purchased the vintage bedroom furniture impulsively, sell it to a vintage furniture shop that’s interested in them or online.
